Tanda Ausonio was Born in Sassari in 1926. His formation began at the Art Institute of Sassari and then he moved to Rome in 1951; his first succes in the arts dates back to 1950 , when he won ex aequo with Constantin Spada and Mauro Manca, the award " City of Sassari " organized by the Tourism Association of Sassari. In the '50s and 60s he received many awards like:
-First Prize at Biennale of Arts in Nuoro ( 1954);
- First Prize at the Exhibition of Figurative Arts in Cagliari (1959);
- again in 1959 , he also the First Prize at the Biennale d'Arte Nuoro and the Giovanni Ciusa Award;
- in 1962 he was given the Gold Medal of thePresidency of the Republic at the Seventh Review of Art of Termoli followed by a retrospective exhibition at the town of Grosseto;
In 1963 setted up solo exhibition in Sassari and in Rome , featuring Aligi Sassu and Roberto Sebastian Matta in the execution of a mural for the city of Dozza (BO ).
In 1964 he exhibited at the Exhibition of Contemporary Art at Palazzo Strozzi , winning the first prize of critics ex-aequo.
In 1967 he was appointed by the Ministry of Education to establish the Art School in Cagliari , which he presided  until 1971.
His works are part of numerous public and private collections both in Sardinia and in the rest of Italy , such as the Provincial Administration of Sassari , as well as the
Banco di Sardegna, the Sassari University , the Chamber of Commerce of Sassari and Cagliari and Nuoro. He died in Rome in 1998.
In September 2008, the ' Carlo Fontana's Ancient House of Correction by Carlo Fontana, at the Complex Of San Michele a Ripa (Rome ) hosted a retrospective exhibition entitled  "Ausonio
Tanda  Works 1950 - 1988 " with about 90 works that have retraced all the expressive way of the Sardinian artist.
