Antonio Ballero was born in Nuoro, the 6th of September 1864.

In 1903, he exhibited a small “Self-portrait Under the Sun” at the show promoted by the Beaux Arts Society in Genoa. He took part in the exhibition the following year as well, and, in 1908, his self-portrait was also exposed at the Turin Quadrennial Exhibition.

In 1912, he moved to Sicily where he worked as a teacher at the “Istituto Tecnico Industriale” in Messina. He exhibited at the Brera Biennial Exhibition in Milan in 1916, and at the Turin Quadrennial Exhibition in 1917; in 1920, he mounted a solo show at the Viniciana Gallery in Milan where he exposed 140 works. In 1924, he showed 12 drawings at the Contemporary Female Portrait Exhibition held in Monza, and he got the “Diploma d’Onore”. In the following years, he took part in various shows, including: an art exhibition held at the “Palazzo Comunale” in Cagliari in 1928; the 1st Biennial Exhibition of Sardinian Art mounted at the “Palazzo dell’Università” in Sassari in 1928-29; the 1st Exhibition organised by the Regional Fascist Trade Union of Beaux Arts in Sassari in 1930.

He died in Sassari, the 19th of January 1932.
